Thirsty
Weekly Reading Topic for May 23, 2020:
Well, good morning, love! I just opened a Reading for you, my newsletter subscribers and here’s what I heard in answer to the following:
What do my readers most need to hear this weekend? What is the most important message to send to my beloved readers?
The answer was: “thirsty.”
What follows is your weekly reading, dear one.
Weekly Reading │ Thirsty
Q: What do we need to know about “thirsty?”
A: If you ever find yourself thinking “maybe I’m just thirsty,” that’s a signal that you have passed the point of alarm in your body, and your brain is signaling that dehydration has already set in.
So before we get into this week’s message, take a beat and notice if your body is asking for hydration. Take care of that before we go on, OK?
OK. Hydrated and/or hydrating? Good!
We say things like “water is life,” and we note that we can only live a couple days without it, but we rarely acknowledge the total, awesome reality of water’s power over our mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing.
When water leaves the tissues, we are absolutely incapable of living anything close to a Good Life. Water is used as a solvent, as a catalyst, as a cushion, as a method of transportation, as a detoxifying agent in our body.
Without water our skin thins and shrivels, our eyes dry up, our ears harden, our blood sludges, our bowels still, our liver pounds, our muscles cramp, and our immune system is rendered useless. Our neurons don’t connect well, which means our thinking slows and blurs, like vaseline smeared over a windowpane.
We. Must. Stay. Well. Hydrated. To. Live. A. Good. Life.
So, this week’s message is a simple and direct call to action for the most basic self-care: make sure you are well hydrated this week and in the coming weeks. Months. Years. Life.
So many things deplete our stores of water, including digestion and thinking and moving and fighting off illness. So many things in our environment can also do the same, including mental, emotional, and physical stress.
So drink water. And also, make sure that you have enough electrolytes in your body to KEEP the water in your cells. Without enough potassium, magnesium, sodium, and various little minerals, the water you drink will simply sheet off your cells, like water over a dry sponge.
With those electrolytes, the sponge is open and softened, and easily absorbs the water.
So give yourself a daily dose of electrolytes. You can use the juice of a lemon, a pinch of sea salt (the unrefined kind), or an over-the-counter powder or capsule.
Stress depletes minerals, which means stress dehydrates. So … remineralize, to rehydrate.
And one more thing about physical thirst: our lower brains do not signal thirst until hydration is an emergency level. So if you wait to drink water until you FEEL THIRSTY you are waiting until you are dehydrated before you hydrate. This makes no sense.
It’s like waiting to water a plant until it’s limp, dry, and mostly brown. That’s not too late to bring it back (most of the time), but it’s certainly not a state of health for that plant. It’s not nurturing that plant, to make it wait to get watered until after it has nearly died.
It’s like watching your dog drink out of his water bowl day after day and not refilling it until he’s lapping at the stagnant little puddle left in the bottom. That is not healthy, to drink ever-more-stagnant water!
For health, you wash and refill your dog’s water bowl every day, twice a day even.
For health, you check your plant every day and water as needed to keep it green and growing, twice a day even.
For health, you deliberately hydrate your body, every day, multiple times, well before you get an alarm like feeling thirsty.

The basic rules are this:
- Drink water immediately upon rising. First thing. Your body uses a tremendous amount of water overnight to detoxify the liver and other internal organs. You need to replace it. A good 24-30 ounces is perfect!
- Drink a similar amount of water one hour before eating AND two hours after eating throughout the day. That way you are making sure you have enough water to digest your food well, and are replacing the water you used to digest your food 🙂
- If you sweat, drink water. You need to replace it.
- If you drink something dehydrating, drink a similar amount of water to replace the water it takes. 1 glass of wine = 1 glass of water
- Don’t go to bed dehydrated. You need water to detox! Take a pinch of salt with your bedtime water and see if you don’t find it helps you sleep 🙂
OK. NOW. The more fun way to look at thirsty feelings — the metaphysical.
The thirst we feel in our bodies, the begging feeling, the stop-everything-and-take-care-of-this-now feeling, is a demand for Life Itself.
When we are thirsty on the mental level, we are eager to Learn Something New.
When we are thirsty on the emotional level, we are eager to Love With Our Whole Heart.
When we are thirsty on a spiritual level, we are eager to Remember and Be Who We Really Are.
We are thirsty on all of these levels right now.
Collectively, we are demanding more Life, more Love, more Learning, and more Remembering.
We are standing in our deserts, staring at the horizon, conjuring our oases, and setting our course.
We may be feeling isolated, but we know we are connected.
It’s time, darling friend of my heart, to live the life you meant to, in every way you can.
If you satisfy your physical thirst this week, I promise you will start to see how to satisfy your mental, emotional, and spiritual thirst as well.
And if you continue to water yourself daily, as you would a plant, or a beloved animal, you will actually satisfy those other thirsts. You won’t be able to help it.
It’s a beautiful world when water is plenty, and clear, and held close to the tissues, allowed to swirl and swagger about the body. It’s a beautiful world when you are well and whole, and can give to others who need assistance.
The ocean is a beautiful place when you allow the currents to swirl around you, take you, bob you, swim you.
We hold oceans inside our bodies, hearts, and minds. They are made of endless fields of empty space that fill in the darkness between atoms, the expansions of universes in between the strings of cells. We hold inside of us as many worlds as we behold in our view of the universe.
And water is the physical element that fills in the spaces, that carries the energy of Love and Life inside and outside on this planet.
You will fall in love with yourself, with your life, when you are well-hydrated on a consistent basis. Dehydration causes wilt, betrayal of yourself and others. Hydration inspires wellness, calm, and a whole, clear heart and mind.
We Are Who We Are Meant To Be when we give ourselves the most basic of human bodily needs, water, in a loving, consistent, plentiful, nurturing way.
This is such a simple, basic, lovely way to care for yourself and by extension all others.
This is the first step to being love in action.
It is known.
Be hydrated and be blessed!
I am always here to serve in any way I can.
Much Love to You,
Molly
