Is Anybody Out There?
Weekly Reading Topic for May 2, 2020:
Well, good morning, love! I just opened a Reading for you, my newsletter subscribers and here’s what I heard in answer to the following:
What do my readers most need to hear this weekend? What is the most important message to send to my beloved readers?
The answer was: “Is anybody out there?”
What follows is your weekly reading, dear one.
Weekly Reading │ Is Anybody Out There?
Q: What do we need to know about “Is anybody out there?”
A: This is one of the fundamental questions of human existence. Every cell in our body, every instinct in the primate brain, and every experience we have as a species is either the question or the answer to this question.
Is anybody out there?
Yes.
Is anybody out there?
No.
Is anybody out there?
Yes, thankfully.
Is anybody out there?
No, thankfully.
When you come from the Oneness of All That Is, it is difficult to have a true conception of what being Something / Someone Else actually … is. Means. Was. Will Be.
Whoa. Ick. That was a basically unintelligible sentence, right?
That’s because we’re entering the territory of the ineffable, where language breaks down. Let me try again.
There is this place in the human mind where Awe lives, and we just don’t visit there often in our daily lives.
Often Awe is locked up inside us, and we only allow it to overwhelm our senses during an extraordinary experience.
Some people faint at the sight of beautiful art. (The Uffizi Museum in Florence sees this multiple times a day.)
When the men who landed on the moon turned around and caught their first glimpse of Earth, rising like a blue ship in the black sea of the galaxy, their minds unlocked the ineffable Awe.
The only coherent thought that came out of that experience was this: “If only everyone knew how small and blue and beautiful our home is, the world would be a better place.”
So this weekend we are being asked to ask this existential question. Is anybody out there?
For some of us the answer is Yes — in fact, our government finally acknowledged this week that UFO’s exist. (Don’t get too excited, they don’t say they are piloted by aliens, just that they don’t know what they are.)
But really: UFO’s?? There may literally be a SomeBody out there, right now, darting over your home as you read these words.
What do we look like to them? Are we little strange ants moving along our little strange roads? Are we beloved creatures they’ve watched for centuries? Do we look like sweet infants? Or enraged toddlers?
And for others, the answer to the question is anybody out there is No, there isn’t. Who cares if aliens might be visiting — my father is a royal prick, and I have functionally been orphaned since birth. So, when I look, there’s nobody out there.
And for others, the answer is yes, I see my God everywhere, and feel him/her in my faith. I take comfort in the words and prayers I was taught as a child, I find refuge in that Somebody Out There.
And for me, the answer is yes. You are out there. And in you, I know the All.
So, in this strangely disconnected and uber-connected life we are experiencing together during this bizarre revolution around our sun, it’s time to decide Your Answer to the question attributed to Albert Einstein:
“The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.”
Is anybody out there? Yes. Or. No.
Make your decision. And then, act accordingly. (You can’t help but do it anyway.)
Every decision we make matters now because it will bring instant results. Friendly universe? A feeling that somebody is out there, even if you don’t actually believe in God. You’ll see the synchronicities and love in everyday life.
Unfriendly universe? A feeling that nobody is out there, even if you believe in God. You’ll see the disconnects and the damage we can do to each other.
Both of these experiences can create change in our life. Sometimes seeing a friendly universe makes us take big risks, break out of bad relationships, make a career leap.
Sometimes an unfriendly universe makes us take big risks, break out of bad relationships, make a career leap.
The real difference is the emotional quality of the two stances. It feels more Real and Fun for me to see a friendly universe.
It’s not that a friendly outlook solves problems. It just makes problems easier to solve.
So, if you are feeling things break inside your life, and you want to try on a universe-is-friendly attitude, take a look and see where those breaks are.
Study the damage you see. The cracks in our experience become little windows and little doors into the state of Awe. Step through, and you might marvel at how small your big problems look, or how beautiful your life is, even though it is so far away, floating in a black void.
Interrupt yourself and your life with Awe deliberately this week, so that when the world interrupts you, you will know how to step through those doors and windows.
Some experiences are so big and so weird that only “God” could have made them happen.
And this week is packed with those … so be ready to decide, quickly, in the moment:
Is anybody out there?
Yes.
Is anybody out there?
No.
Is the universe friendly, or unfriendly?
Your answer will determine your experiences from here on out. And you can always change your mind about your answer… but you will not always have such a glorious opportunity to experience our world the way the men on the moon did.
Get ready for Awe!
Much Love to You,
Molly
